Pan de Amerikana, The upside down restaurant

It was my cousin who invited me to join her to have lunch at Pan de Amerikana. At first I thought maybe she just wanted to have some pandesal (bread roll) for lunch *weird* because usually in the Philippines, when you hear Pan de +something, most likely it's a bakery, and Filipinos would love to eat pandesal at breakfast. Then she said that the place is nice and it's interesting because it's an upside down restaurant. So I got thrilled to see the place and said yes for a Sunday morning jog and brunch at Pan de Amerikana.
So we went and I was impressed and surprised not just because it's an upside down restaurant, but because they serve good and very cheap Filipino food as well. They have Adobo, Bicol express, Chicken pandan and a lot more! Ranging from Php40 to php100. They also have Halo-halo! :D The place is very cozy and relaxing, an indoor garden setting while having lunch or dinner... I just love the place, food and the idea.
Although it's weird Pan de Amerikana then Filipino food? But who cares? As long as they serve great food, that's all that matters! :D

KARE KARE! ALL TIME FAVE!

I love Kare-Kare! It's a meat vegetable stew with peanut sauce and Kare-Kare is NOT without bagoong well for some :P because most of the time I eat Kare-Kare without it. Bagoong is a shrimp or fish paste.

Best Kare-Kare I've tried out of our kitchen is from Max's (The house that fried chicken built).

Max's website -->http://www.maxschicken.com

AND

Here's the Kare-Kare recipe:

1/2 kilo beef (round or sirloin cut) cut into cubes (for a more traditional kare kare, use cleaned beef tripe instead of beef)
1/2 kilo oxtail, cut 2 inch long
3 cups of peanut butter
1/4 cup grounded toasted rice
1/2 cup cooked bagoong alamang (anchovies)
2 pieces onions, diced
2 heads of garlic, minced
4 tablespoons atsuete oil
4 pieces eggplant, sliced 1 inch thick
1 bundle Pechay (Bok choy) cut into 2 pieces
1 bundle of sitaw (string beans) cut to 2" long
1 banana bud, cut similar to eggplant slices, blanch in boiling water
1/2 cup oil
8 cups of water
Salt to taste

METHOD

1. In a stock pot, boil beef and oxtails in water for an hour or until cooked. Strain and keep the stock.

2. Heat oil and atsuete oil in a big pan or wok.

3. Sauté garlic, onions until golden brown, then add the stock, toasted rice, beef, oxtail and peanut butter. Bring to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes. Salt to taste.

4. Add the eggplant, string beans, pechay and banana bud. Cook the vegetables for a few minutes. Do not overcook the vegetables.

5. You can have the option to serve with bagoong on the side and hot plain rice.

BUT I like Mom's recipe than this, I'm just too lazy to write it down as of the moment. But if you ask me, I can give it to you. Just not today. :)

1st TIME TO EAT ITLOG NA MAALAT! :D

Thanks to NID'S BALOT SA DAHON the best Binalot resto! The first time I went there, I ate Beef Kaldereta with salted egg and tomato. It was the first time I tried salted egg and I loved it.

Since I was delighted with the itlog na maalat (Salted egg) with kamatis (Tomato), I tried doing it at home, I mashed itlog na maalat and I chopped a tomato but I didn't like the way it turned out, the taste is different. So I decided to go back to NID's and this time I tried Chicken Adobo and of course with the salted egg and tomato.

I don't know but there's really something with their itlog na maalat, it's different as well as their kamatis, it's sweet. So then I realized If I will be eating itlog na maalat, I should just go to NID's lol.

By the way the Nid's balot sa dahon I used to visit is at the Broadway Centrum in Quezon City, but I believe they have other branches in the metro. I recommend this resto if you're into Filipino food, they serve really good food plus very nice and friendly staff.

ITLOG NA MAALAT yumyum!
